Community and Economic Development - Representative Engagements

We have worked extensively with local and state governments, federal agencies, economic development corporations, and chambers of commerce in formulating successful, innovative programs to stimulate economic growth and investment. Often part of a multi-disciplinary planning team, a key ingredient of our community and economic development services is our dedication to working closely with clients and community groups to establish consensus. The firm has extensive experience in assisting local civic and government groups in identifying strategies to create economically and socially vibrant environments that contribute positively to the fiscal balance, quality of life, and civic pride of the community.

The firm's expertise has been applied to:

  • Downtown and Commercial District Revitalization
  • Transit-Oriented Development
  • Marina and Waterfront Development
  • Industrial Development and Redevelopment
  • Development Finance/Tax Increment Financing (TIF)/Special Service Areas
  • Developer and Business Recruitment

Each area presents its own set of unique challenges. For example, downtown business districts have evolved into unique multi-purpose community activity centers that feature retail, office, residential, transit, not-for-profit, and public uses. Services provided include comprehensive market studies and strategies, tenant mix inventories and evaluations, target market identification, physical improvements, and business and developer recruitment.

Transit-oriented development projects may include means of preservation of future rights of way; new rail and bus station development; development potentials at transit stations including retail, office, residential, and mixed-use development; and land use planning to enhance transit. We also have participated in strategic planning for public transportation.

We have experience with both new industrial/business park development and "brownfield" redevelopment. Services we provide include preparation of market studies, financial feasibility, development and financing strategies, and implementation assistance including developer recruitment and marketing.
